Peamount United travel to Wexford on Sunday looking to bounce straight back from last week’s heavy defeat to UCD Waves.
“We were very disappointed last week,” admitted manager Robbie Mulligan. “We’ve brushed ourselves down and had a good week’s training and we can bounce right back.”
The Peas are without the injured Michelle Dunne and Sylvia Gee, while Eleanor Ryan-Doyle is on international duty with the Irish under 17’s. “Wexford are a strong side and very well organised, it’ll be a tough game but we can march on towards the top two,” said Mulligan.
Wexford go into the game on the back of an impressive 5-1 win over Galway but manager Willie Doyle is not reading too much into the margin of victory. “We got the breaks against Galway,” explained Wexford boss Willie Doyle. “It had been a very tight game until we scored, Galway could have had a penalty. We’ve won three of the first four, so we’re going in the right direction. If we can win, we’ll stay in touch with the top two.”
Doyle also admitted that he is expecting a backlash from Peamount as they try to erase the memory of last week’s heavy defeat.
“Peamount’s loss to UCD was a shock and they’re going to be like caged animals. I expect them to come at us from the off. The first goal will be crucial, if we get it, it may just knock Peamount’s confidence a bit more.”
