AFTER a solid start to the campaign Wexford Youths are looking to get back to winning ways following defeats to Raheny United in both the league and FAI Continental Tyres Women’s Senior Cup when they host Galway WFC.
Youths boss Willie Doyle knows that the Galwegians are in good form following a league draw against Cork City Women’s FC and a League Cup victory over the same opponents.
“We know that it’s a Galway side that has built up some good momentum while we’re off two defeats against Raheny. We’ve had a good start but have to bounce back now after those losses,” said Doyle.
“We have to be winning our home games. I know Don O’Riordan from years ago but I haven’t seen Galway play yet but I understand they’re improving week to week and are playing good football.”
Wexford are without Orlagh Conlon (broken foot) and knee injury victims Jenny Clifford and Nicole Sinnott while Jess Gleeson is waiting on a green light from her doctor before deciding if she can play after a brief illness.
Galway boss O’Riordan has a similar squad available to the one that met Cork last weekend and he feels there is a competitiveness in his squad now.
“Everybody did well last week and there are people knocking on the door to get into the starting XI. I’m looking to build on last week, our first win – it was good to get the win and clean sheet,” he said.
“The performance against Cork first time out wasn’t too bad but we wasted chances and gave away some sloppy goals. We’re trying to educate the players and improve collectively and individually.
“It’ll be a tough game down there and we will have to play as well as last week at the least to get the three points.”
