Defending champions Raheny United host Galway WFC on Sunday after their European campaign came to an end on Thursday. Casey McQuillian’s side lost 2-1 in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League tie to Bristol Academy.
“We gave a better account of ourselves on Thursday night, which was positive, though we would have liked to get a result.” admitted Casey McQuillan. “It’s going to be a tough challenge, Galway have been unlucky this season and the loss to Wexford last week was a surprise,” added McQuillan.
Raheny are without Claire Shine and have concerns over Noelle Murray, Rebecca Creagh and Lauren Dwyer, who all started against Bristol Academy. “We have a couple of concerns over the three players we took off against Bristol and I’m expecting a tough game.”
Galway boss Don O’Riordan is looking to get back on track after last week’s 5-1 defeat to Wexford Youths. “We thought we’d taken a step forward after beating Cork, I think we’ve taken two steps back after last week’s result,” revealed O’Riordan.
“We’ve put in a lot of hard work in training over the week and we know that Raheny is a big challenge. We’ll need 11 players to compete on Sunday, I know we’re definitely not the team that played against Wexford last weekend.”
