DON O’Riordan’s Galway WFC travel to Peamount United on Sunday in search of their first win of the season.
“We had a very close game earlier in the season,” said O’Riordan ahead of what he expects will be a great tussle in Greenouge.
“I thought we gave a great account of ourselves against Waves last Sunday. The girls were fantastic and every one of them gave 100 per cent.
“Ruth Fahy and Medabh DeBurca were outstanding in the centre of midfield – our performance in taking the lead showed how good we are.
“I just feel if we can perform like we did against Raheny and the Waves we can beat any of the teams in the league. We have to turn up and we can get the result.”
The Tribeswomen are without Carla Mullins who is a long term injury concern, though O’Riordan has a number of players returning to the squad having completed study requirements.
Sunday shall be Peamount’s first game since October with Robbie Mulligan very hopeful the game will go ahead despite the inclement weather.
“Were raring to go,” grinned Mulligan. “The pitch is in good condition and we have an all-weather pitch as a back-up. We’ve trained well for three weeks, so were chomping at the bit for a game.
“Galway have been competitive in their games so far, they could have picked up more points. We’re under no illusions on how tough Sunday could be.
“We took three points in Galway earlier this season, I see no reason why we can’t picked up three points on Sunday.
“We had a good start then a little dip so were looking forward to getting going again. If we can get a good run up to Christmas we can be contention for the title.
“Everyone can take points off each, so home games could be the decider.”
On the injury front Michelle Dunne is out of Sunday’s game, though Mulligan expects to have the rest of his panel available.
