UNBEATEN Peamount United face UCD Waves in an intriguing encounter at Greenogue on Sunday with the visiting coach Eileen Gleeson returning for the first time to the club that she was so successful with in recent years.
Both sides have nine points under their belts so the stage is set for a cracking game. Many of the Waves players are former Peas players too so there are plenty of sub-plots to this fixture.
Gleeson is focusing on her own side and insists there will be no emotional attachment to the game from her perspective. “There's no emotional element to it as far as I’m concerned. We see a lot of familiar faces every week so we're going to go there and just do our stuff and look to win the three points,” she said.
“All of our players are in good form after last week's cup win over Castlebar Celtic. It was a good win for us. The girls showed a lot of composure and you are always happy when you keep a clean sheet. We controlled the tempo of the game in the second half.
“I'm not really paying too much attention to Peamount. I’m just concentrating on UCD. They're unknown to us really.“
Savannah McCarthy remains a week from fitness for Waves. Peamount boss Robbie Mulligan has doubts over the fitness of Michelle Dunne and Sylvia Gee but expects his squad can cope with any potential absentees.
"Everybody is looking forward to it. As far as I’m concerned it's just another three points at stake and that's the way we'll approach it. We're coming into it on the back of three wins and playing one of the challengers,” said Mulligan.
“Of course we'll be welcoming back a lot of players who've been here at Peamount for a few years but at the end of it all we're playing a competitive game on Sunday. They're a big part of the club’s past.
“It's obviously going to be very tough. We've watched them a few times and know what we're facing. I feel we can deal with what they'll throw at us. We'll feel that we can cause them problems too and we're looking forward to really good game.”
