Peamount slot seven past Cork City

Peamount returned to winning ways after three consecutive defeats by slotting seven goals past an out-of-form Cork City side in a nine goal thriller at Greenogue on Sunday afternoon.
Cork City begin the game with attacking intent from the first whistle, carving out several chances on goal, the first goal of the game arrived after City skipper Katie McCarty putting the ball past the Peamount keeper Brooke Dunne inside the opening 15 minutes.
After conceding the opening goal, the home side were quick to settle into their stride and midfielder Hayley Nolan fired them level 11 minutes later when she hammered a shot past the visiting keeper Trish Fennelly.
Both sides continued to battle for every ball, while exchanging opportunities on goal right up to the referee’s halftime whistle.
When the two sides emerged after the halftime, the home side started best and began to up the intensity of their play. Five minutes after the restart they got their just rewards when substitute Jessica Gargran fired the Peas into the lead.
Peamount continued their excellent start to the second half adding a third just four minutes later when Kim Turner slotted the ball into the visitors net.
Despite being three goals to one down Cork continued to show their fighting spirit and were rewarded Vanessa Ogbonna scored the visitors second goal of the match.
However from the resulting kick off Eleanor Ryan Doyle squirmed free and the Peamount striker restored the hosts two goal advantage.
As the away team began to tire inside the last 15 minutes Peamount added three late goals. Firstly from the boot of Rachel Doyle while Gargran and Ryan Doyle both added their second of the game to complete the scoring.
