GALWAY WFC showed their quality last week when holding champions Raheny United away from home and they will look to build on that performance when they host local rivals Castlebar Celtic on Sunday.
Don O'Riordan was delighted with his side's display but he feels that there is more to come from the Tribeswomen.
"When I think about last week, for me the most frightening aspect was that the week before against Wexford we almost capitulated. You couldn't have picked a bigger test than away to Raheny the champions," he said.
"We worked a lot on the basics - things we'd worked on in pre-season that we needed a bit of reminding of. The girls worked really hard. The weather in the session last Friday was unbelievable without one complaint from any player so we knew we needed the same commitment against Raheny and that's what we delivered on the Sunday.
"We've set a new bar for ourselves to go and reach. We've taken a point off one of the big teams for the first time. Everybody says this will be a tough game and the girls will want to hold their heads up with pride afterwards due to the derby nature of it. They all know each other. These games are usually quite tight and I told the girls the challenge was the same as it was against Raheny last week."
Castlebar Celtic are missing Lauren Bowles and Aoife Brennan due to GAA commitments. Player-coach Maz Sweeney said: "Everybody is looking forward to the derby game. We didn't have a game last week with the match being called off and had a disappointing result the previous week. So we're keen to just get back on the pitch.
"Galway got a good result last week. Don O'Riordan has done a really good job with them so we expect a difficult test."
