CHARLIE Lynch’s Cork City Women’s FC travel to UCD Waves in search of their first win of the season, while a victory for Waves will see them move to second place in the table.
Lynch remains optimistic about his sides chances on the trip to Jackson Park.
“We were unlucky to lose against Wexford last weekend and I felt it was a closer game than the two nil score line suggested,” he said.
“I was especially happy with Ciara Desmond’s contribution and we know she can be a big player for us in the coming weeks.”
The Leesiders are without Katie McCarthy, who picked up an ankle injury last weekend, while Nathalie O’Brien remains out with a broken leg.
Fiona Considine and Chloe Ahern are still slowly working their way back to full fitness. Shannon Carson has recovered from the illness which curtailed her involvement last Sunday.
“This will be a difficult game but we as always travel optimistic of getting a result,” admitted Lynch.
“After having nearly a full month off due to postponements we are getting back into the swing of things.”
Waves coach Eileen Gleeson was glad to get back to winning ways last weekend, coming away from Galway with a 2 – 1 victory having lost their last league outing to Wexford Youths and the Women’s FAI Continental Tyres Cup Final to Raheny United.
“We showed good character to get the win in Galway,” explained Gleeson. “We went behind but fought back into the game, Galway have a very tough defence.
“I’m just looking to keep up winning ways. We had two big losses but we have enough experience to keep the show on the road.
“Cork are a lot better than last year. They’re are improving all the time. They’re a tough side and have made a couple of good new signings.
“Training went well this week and last and we’ve built a good moral for a new team. We have no injury concerns which is a bonus.”
