THIRD placed UCD Waves face Castlebar Celtic in Jackson Park on Sunday knowing a win may move them back into the title race.
“It’s great to back in action,” admitted Waves boss Eileen Gleeson as her side play their first game in three weeks.
“I expect Celtic to come at us. I think they will be out for redemption after their big loss to Raheny united in the League Cup semi-final.”
Waves sit eight points behind league leaders Wexford Youths so if Youths fail to beat the Pandas then Waves have every chance to rein in the points difference as they have yet to play both sides.
“For us it’s important we get the three points, no matter what happens in Wexford” explained Gleeson.
“In this league there are a number of twists and turns to take, but we have to get a victory and we’ll see where we are on Sunday night.”
Waves have close to a full panel to choose from for the visit of Castlebar Celtic, with long term injury Kerrie Ryan the only player missing.
“It’s going to be very, very tough,” explained Celtic boss Adrian Carberry. “We’re down six players, we always had a thin squad which makes it harder.
“On paper Waves are the best team in the league so heading out to Jackson Park, all we can do is it give it 100 per cent and look to take any breaks that come in the game.”
Celtic are without Rachel Curran who is focusing on Gaelic football, while Susan Doyle and Ashling Egan are unavailable. While injury rules out Rachel King of Sunday’s game as Castlebar Celtic aim to secure a fifth place finish.
