WEXFORD Youths are the form team in the division and will look to cap off their impressive season by clinching a place in a national final but to do that they must beat league champions Raheny for the first time on Sunday.
The Model County side have a doubt about Jenny Clifford, who is currently with the Ireland U17 side in Scotland, while Lauren Dwyer face a fitness test and Lucy Sherwin remains out.
“It’s the biggest game in this club’s three year existence,” said Wexford’s Peter Doyle. Youths beat Cork Women’s FC 10-0 for their record victory last week.
“We know it is a chance to get to a national cup final and we’re expecting good home support. Of course it is a good opportunity but Raheny United are the only team we’ve not beaten since we came into the league.
“We can’t read too much into last week, it was our record victory and good to see we scored the chances we created but all it will do is help the confidence ahead of a tough test.”
Raheny are without the injured Ciara Grant and head coach Casey McQuillan is anticipating a big challenge at Ferrycarrig Park.
“Wexford are in very good form and Rianna Jarrett’s return after a long injury recently is a big plus for them,” he said.
“For us it’s about keep the run of form going. We fell behind against Castlebar last week after being poor enough starting off the first half but we probably edged it on the second half display.
“The half-time break suited us and we got the basics done. At this time of the season people are more afraid of doing the wrong thing than concentrate on doing the right things but once we settled down we played quite well.”
