WNL Cup: Castlebar Celtic -v- Peamount United
- Extratime Team
- Fri, Apr 18 2014
CASTLEBAR Celtic meet Peamount United in a repeat of last year’s final of this competition. The Mayo side are another outfit looking to secure a first ever win over their opponents.
Celtic coach Adrian Carberry has to operate without Geraldine McLoughlin and Shauna Jackson while Aileen Gilroy and Emma Mullin have knocks but should be fit.
“We’re looking forward to it. We’re nearing the end of season and still fighting for a trophy. All you want is to be there with something to play for at this point. That’s great for us,” said Carberry.
“Last week’s performance against Raheny saw us get a good start – the wind played a big part in the game and we needed to get the second goal but it didn’t come. Then we had a great chance to equalise in the dying seconds. It was a great performance with two good teams playing. The girls haven’t beaten Peamount yet so maybe that performance can help them believe they have a great chance on Sunday.”
Eileen Gleeson has a full strength squad bar long term absentee Sara Lawlor but is anticipating a tough test in Mayo.
“It should be a good game. Castlebar have a very good squad and that has been shown by their good results lately,” she said.
“I’m anticipating a very tough game down there. We always view this cup as being important. We have won it last two years and it would be good to retain it if we can.”
