CORK Women's FC host holders Peamount United at Ballea Park, home of Carrigaline United AFC, this Sunday in a rearranged Group Two fixture with Castlebar Celtic waiting to see who clinches second spot and will meet them in the semi-finals.
Peamount and DLR Waves have three points while Cork are without a point. If the Leesiders won on Sunday it would mean all three sides finished on three points and would result in a drawing of lots situation to decide the final semi-final spot.
The home side continue without Megan Carroll (foot), Linda McNamara (leg) and Michelle Browne (hip) but new signings have strengthened Cork's hand. "We've got more competition for places. It'll be a real test this weekend but we'll know how the team is shaping up after this game," said Cork's Chris O'Mahony.
Peamount have a full squad and Brooke Dunne and Hayley Nolan have come through from the underage set-up in recent weeks.
"We have to win the game and that's our intention. We're hoping it'll go ahead and we can get the win and move forward," said Peamount boss Eileen Gleeson, who received a boost last week when she was named alongside Ireland national team manager Sue Ronan as one of the first female coaches to be admitted onto the UEFA Pro Licence in Ireland.
"I'm absolutely delighted to get on the course. I got my UEFA A licence in 1999 and I've been coaching for nearly 20 years. The first team I coached was Ballymun United in the Dublin Women's Soccer League and I also had a spell with St James's Gate.
"I was always involved in the game. I was doing a full-time soccer coaching course in Donaghmede and Sportslink with Tom O'Connor and Billy Young as the tutors and that developed my interest. The next step is Pro Licence. The only way forward for the women's game is for the people involved to bring up their own standards and that'll filter down into their clubs. That's what I aim to do, not just for my own development but for women's football in Ireland."
