Sligo Rovers got back to winning ways in the Airtricity League following a 2-0 victory over Limerick in The Showgrounds.
A goal in either half from Raffaele Cretaro and Danny North secured the three points as Rovers moved to within six points of the top of the table with a game in hand.
The home side got off to an ideal start as a cross from Kieran Djilali was eventually turned in by Cretaro. Djilali almost claimed a second assist minutes later when he squared a ball for Jeff Henderson, but the defender’s strike was always rising over the bar.
Axel Bossekota thought he had equalised for the visitors after 29 minutes when he ran onto a Stephen Bradley through ball and tapped it home, but Derek Tomney ruled it out due to a push on Gavin Peers in the build-up.
Darragh Rainsford had Limerick’s best opportunity of the half just before the break when he found space in the box, but just as he lined up the strike, Jeff Henderson denied the striker with a last ditch interception.
The Bit O’Red began the second-half just as they started the first, finding the back of the net again inside the first ten minutes.
A chipped free-kick by Joseph Ndo found Danny North who smashed the ball home from close range at a tight angle to double his side’s lead.
David McMillan returned to the squad tonight and featured in the final 15 minutes, coming agonisingly close to getting on the score sheet in the space of two minutes.
His first effort in the 82nd minute was drilled narrowly wide of the goal before seeing his shot brilliantly parried away by Barry Ryan.
