SHAMROCK ROVERS:
The Hoops push for European football continues this Saturday at Tallaght Stadium against mid table Cork City.
Although hopes of European football through League position looks bleak, Rovers will be pushing until the last to steal a march on Derry City and Sligo Rovers.
The Hoops enter the game off the back of a positive seven days, with a league win over Shelbourne last Friday followed up by a Leinster Senior Cup success over non league Wayside Celtic.
The boss of the 17 times champions, Trevor Croly was pleased with the last week and is looking to push on for a 3rd win in eight days.
“Last weekend was a good one for us, as we picked up three points in the league and secured a place in the final of the Leinster Senior Cup. The players put in good performances and show good character to get two wins from two very different games. We know Cork will be very keen to get the win on Saturday night, but we will be keen to build on last week and get another three points.”
The Hoops will be without Defender Jason McGuinness and Striker Mark Quigley through suspension and utility man Danny Ledwith through injury. Croly will also have to deal with the loss of striker Eammon Zayed to international duty with Libya.
CORK CITY:
Stuart Ashton's side will be searching for their fourth league win in a row on Saturday when they travel north to face 17 times champions Shamrock Rovers.
This will be the fifth meeting between the sides this season, after two league games and the two legged Setanta Cup semi final, with a late Billy Dennehy free kick sending the Hoops through to the final, which they won.
Stuart Ashton is under no illusions on how hard it will be in Tallaght.
“Going to Tallaght is always a difficult task. As we keep saying, they are above us in the table at the moment so we will look to get something from the game and try to catch them. We need to build on the Derry game. It was a good win, but there are still patches of the game and bits of play that we can improve on. We gave away a sloppy goal again, and we need to work on that with the players; they’ve put in a great performance and then given away a sloppy goal. We need to work hard, try to get the right result and see where it takes us.”
Referee: Robert Rodgers
MATCH STATS:
Eammon Zayed will be unavailable for the game as he and his Libya team mates prepare for their crunch world cup qualifier against the star studded Cameroon side.
Cork City striker Danny Morrisey has netted 4 times in 4 outings since Stuart Ashton took over on a temporary basis from Tommy Dunne.
Cork City defender Dan Murray captained the Hoops during their run to the group stage of the Europa League before returning to Cork City.
