It’s a return to league action for Waterford United and Salthill Devon this Saturday as the sides meet in the RSC in the League of Ireland First Division both hoping to bounce back after early cup exits last weekend. Kick-off 7pm.
WATERFORD UNITED
Despite defeat last weekend to Sligo Rovers, The Blues have performed well of late and will hope to continue that into the league. That defeat came on the back of a good 1-0 away win against Athlone Town after narrowly losing to Limerick on penalties in the EA Sports Cup.
The departure of manager Paul O’Brien has brought a new lease of life to the team and they have responded with some positive displays. Last weekend, they failed to take the chances they created and Sligo showed their clinical nature to progress to the next round.
The Blues will be without the suspended Seamus Long, but welcome back Gavin Kavanagh from illness. John Frost, who is also now helping in a coaching role while a new manager is appointed, is doubtful with a slight ankle injury.
SALTHILL DEVON
Visitors Salthill Devon travel to the RSC with just one league win this season to their name, but it came as recent as their last league outing. A good performance last weekend against a strong Shamrock Rovers side will have set them in good stead as they look to build on their latest three points.
The team’s early season encounter went the way of the home side thanks to a last minute Paudie Quinn strike and the Galway team will be looking to get some revenge for that defeat. Devon currently sit bottom of the table but a win can see them close the gap on second place Cobh Ramblers.
Referee: Jim McKell.
MATCH STATS
Despite being rooted to the bottom of the table, Salthill Devon have scored more goals that Waterford United this season so far, but have conceded 10 more.
The team’s combined points total so far this season would only see them sit second in the table, still five points behind league leaders Longford Town.
Salthill Devon have conceded 16 goals in their last four visits to the RSC.
