Mervue Utd 0 - 0 Wexford Youths

Mervue Utd and Wexford Youths shared the spoils following a scoreless draw at Fahy’s Field on Friday night as both sides created chances to have won the game.
The opening half was a forgetful one, as the home side went close early on through Paul Sinnott who headed over a Barry O’Mahoney free-kick on three minutes, and Stephen Walsh failed to keep his shot down after dispossessing Patsy Malone just past the half hour mark.
Brendan Lavelle flashed a shot over from 12 yards after Graham Doyle failed to claim a ball into the box a minute after the restart, while on 51 minutes he did well again winning back the ball before shooting low but against the butt of Graham Doyle's right hand post with the keeper beaten.
The visitors should have gone in front two minutes later when a thunderbolt from Brian Nolan was too hot for Connor Gleeson as the keeper parried the effort into the path of the lurking Graham Delaney but Gleeson recovered to block brilliantly again at the expense of a corner.
Minutes later Danny Fitzpatrick had a go for Shane Keegan’s charges but Gleeson advanced to block the ball to the waiting Graham Delaney and again the striker failed to hit the target – this time blazing over the crossbar.
Joe Mulcahy then shot wide from Brian Nolan’s cross with 20 minutes remaining as Wexford broke up field after a period of Mervue pressure, while Stephen Walsh headed into the arms of Doyle from a Marc Ludden long throw into the box with three minutes to go.
Mervue sub Gary Shanahan had two great chances to win it for the home side as he shot across the face of goals on 67 minutes with his first touch, while two minutes into injury time he raced clear onto a Paul Sinnott ball but flashed his effort the wrong side of the far post.
A share of the points in the end is really no good to either side as the point does really nothing in the table for either club.
