Wexford Youths Women 1 - 0 Shamrock Rovers

A very windy Ferrycarrig Park saw two weakened squads play out an entertaining game despite the gale force winds buffeting the Wexford venue.
Both Wexford and Shamrock Rovers were hampered by injury and absentees while the home side were without their four international players, with the three U17's away with the Irish squad while U19 international Rianna Jarrett picked up a serious injury last week in the Netherlands and will be out until at least next season.
Rovers started quite well and for the opening fifteen minutes they enjoyed the bulk of possession but when Wexford settled down and made some positional changes on the field, they slowly took control of the game and began to enjoy more territorial possession. They created the best chances of the first half with both Amy Walsh and Krista Minto bringing good saves from Michelle Watson in the Rovers goal. However, despite enjoying the lion's share of the play, the game reached half time with neither team being able to break the deadlock.
The second half continued much as the first half with Wexford creating the better chances but unable to find the elusive goal while Rovers were reduced to long range efforts that were comfortably dealt with by the home defence.
The breakthrough came on eighty three minutes when the girls in pink eventually found the net courtesy of Maria Delahunty who held her nerve when put through by Kylie Murphy and she held her nerve to slot the ball beyond the reach of the advancing Watson.
In a game that saw little in chances created, both teams endeavoured to cope with the blustery conditions and both must be commended in playing a good standard of football and Wexford now move on to their final home game when they host Castlebar Celtic next Sunday.
Wexford Youths Women: Mary Rose Kelly, Lucy Sherwin, Jessica Gleeson, Nikki Dunphy, Clare Conlon, Edel Kennedy, Kylie Murphy, Krista Minto (Rachel Hutchinson) Amy Walsh, Linda Douglas, Maria Delahunty
Referee: Sean Grant
Attendance: 75
