Wexford Youths 2 - 0 Cork Women

Wexford's incredible run in the Bus Eireann Women's National League continued on Sunday when they overcame a determined effort from Cork Women. The girls in pink have not been beaten in the league since the opening match of the season and are now only one point off the top of the table.
In a match typical of the time of year, the game began slowly with the home side enjoying the bulk of possession and were now unlucky not to take the lead early when Ciara Rossiter shot just wide of the post. Constant pressure saw, Wexford win a corner which was swung in by Rachel Hutchinson and headed to the net by a very in-form Rianna Jarrett, to give the home side a deserved lead.
Cork did try to pull themselves into the game but found the Wexford defence, and goalkeeper Mary Rose Kelly in particular, impossible to breakdown and their chances were reduced to long range efforts.
The visitors best chance came early in the second half when Claire Shine broke through but Kelly in the Wexford goal showed why she is rapidly becoming one of the best keepers in the league and pulled off an excellent save.
While the game never reached the level of intensity that both sides are capable of, it still entertained the hundred plus crowd and the home crowd were given further cause for cheer when Edel Kennedy slotted home three minutes from time to wrap up the three points
Three teams now sit on top of the table with just a point separating Peamount United, Raheny United and Wexford Youths and with some interesting games coming up in the next few weeks, the top three could swap places on many occasions.
