Wexford Youths move to summit of League

Wexford Youth Women sit proudly top of the Bus Eireann Women's National League after travelling to Tallaght IT and coming away with all three points while leaders Peamount United were falling to a shock defeat away to DLR Waves.
The girls in Pink got the ideal start in this game when after just eighteen seconds, Rianna Jarrett had them in front when slotting the ball past Sarah Devlin before a Rovers player had an opportunity to even touch the ball. Rovers have traditionally been a problem for the Youths women in the past but on this occasion, Wexford were in no mood for allowing the home side the opportunity to cause any upsets.
The opening twenty minutes was all Wexford and only some good defending, and especially some great goalkeeping by Sarah Devlin, kept them from increasing their advantage. However, on eighteen minutes, the incessant pressure paid off and a perfect pass from a very in form Jarrett found Ashling Frawley in space and she used her pace to win the ball and double Wexford's advantage
As the game headed to half time, Rovers were reduced to long term efforts which the visitors defence dealt with comfortably and Mary Rose Kelly in the goal was rarely troubled. Jarrett was causing all sorts of bother to the home side defence and in quick succession she brought a great save from Devlin and moments later struck the post when the home side failed to clear a corner.
Early in the second half, Wexford put the game out of reach of the home side when Ciara Rossiter cut in from the left and fired the ball to the net with her right foot giving Devlin no chance. Wexford remained in control for the remainder of the game with Jarrett seeing another shot rebound off the crossbar and substitute Amy Walsh brought another top class save from Devlin as she pushed her glancing header over the crossbar
With Peamount going down to a shock two nil defeat in DLR Waves, the Youths were delighted to find that they were top of the table for the first time and will now be heading off to Castlebar next weekend with ambitions on remaining top of the pile
Rianna Jarrett, Ashling Frawley and Edel Kennedy were all outstanding for Wexford while Sarah Devlin was by far Rovers best player on the day.
