DLR Waves 1 - 2 Wexford Youths

A top class first half performance saw Wexford Youths end 2012 on a high as they brought their unbeaten run to seven games when travelling to a cold Jackson Park and come away 2-1 winners over an improving home side.
The visitors always looked dangerous and after constant pressure, they went ahead on twelve minutes when Rianna Jarrett slotted the ball past Sarah Devlin for her sixth goal of the season. Three minutes later, Wexford doubled their advantage when Krista Minto, who was making her full debut, scored and with the girls in pink dominating possession, it looked as if they already had the points in the bag after just quarter of an hour.
However, the leagues newest club dug deep and some good defending saw them deny Wexford any more goals before half time although Ciara Rossiter did go close on a couple of occasions.
The second half saw DLR get the ideal start when the experienced Sylvia Gee tapped the ball to the net after just three minutes and all of a sudden, the game became a contest and the visitors did not look so comfortable.
However, the Wexford defence is the meanest in the league, conceding an average of just a goal a game, and they showed why as they kept the home side at bay and reduced them to scraps and Aimee Jordan in the Wexford goal had little to do.
Rianna Jarrett had two good chances to put the game out of DLR’s reach but Devlin pulled off two excellent saves to deny her. With the scoreline so close, the game was always on edge but Wexford were deserving winners on the day and in their own way, the home side will be delighted with their continued improvement in their first season in the league
Wexford now head into the Christmas break, sitting comfortably in third place and still well in with a shout to finish higher.
