Sporting Fingal will host Drogheda United tomorrow night at 7.45 in the first ever league meeting of the two sides.
The Drogs are looking for their first win of the season, after losses to Bohemians and UCD and a draw in the Louth derby two weeks ago.
Sporting, on the other hand, are looking for their second win of the season following last week’s 3-1 away win over Bray Wanderers.
Following the Leinster Senior Cup win over St. Pat’s earlier this week, Drogs manager Alan Matthews said “it was a good performance although we probably should have scored a few more goals.”
On the fixture in Morton Stadium tomorrow night, Matthews says “we are expecting a tough fixture, we were unlucky against Bohs but we have put that behind us and are looking for a good performance on Friday night. Sporting Fingal are a team I expect to finish up there come the end of the season.”
After Fingal won 2-0 midweek against Bohemians in the quarter-final of the Leinster Senior Cup, Ravens boss Liam Buckley said “Back-to-back wins inevitably breeds confidence but that won’t allow us to underestimate the challenge of our opponents, Drogheda United.”
Speaking about tomorrow night’s opponents, Buckley said, “After a difficult opening night against UCD, they were probably the better side at Dundalk and were unlucky not get something from their home game with Bohemians last week when they led until very late in the game.”
There are two injury doubts for the home side, as Alan Kirby will undergo a late fitness test before kick-off while Lorcan Fitzgerald remains a absent for at least another fortnight after the defender suffered a fractured cheekbone.
Jamie Harris, Jamie Duffy, Corey Treacy and Mick Daly are all doubtful for Drogheda United. Joe Kendrick and John Flood will not feature, as both are suspended for the match.
