Bohemians make the short trip to Morton Stadium on Friday night to face Sporting Fingal in a game which sees third place meet fourth in the Airtricity League Premier Division. (Kick-off 7:45pm)
The hosts will need to improve on Monday night’s FAI Cup 4th round replay with Limerick where Liam Buckley’s men only scraped through on penalties at Jackman Park.
In the build-up to the visit of the champions, Buckley knows that his side are in for a tough test. “We struggled to break down a Limerick side with ten men for the second game in a row and it’s an area we’ll need to improve on for the meeting with Bohemians.” said Buckley.
“It’s vital for our prospects of finishing above them that we get the three points against Bohemians. Our games earlier in the season were close but we’re in good shape for this one.”
Fingal will be without Ger O’Brien who is currently suffering from an ankle problem.
Having won their last four games in all competitions, Bohs will go into this one full of confidence, knowing a victory will keep them firmly in the hunt for a third successive title.
Pat Fenlon has several injury concerns going into the game with two of his top performers this season, Raffaele Cretaro and Paul Keegan both ruled out, while Killian Brennan is a doubt. Ken Oman is suspended.
"We’re very pleased with the runs of wins. We set ourselves targets for six league games and half-way through that series we have maximum points,” said Fenlon. “When these six games are finished, we’ll see where we are and set ourselves new targets for the last six. We aim to win as many games as possible and take advantage if other teams slip up.”
Fenlon went onto add: “Sporting Fingal will be looking to beat us on their home ground. There hasn’t been much between us in any of the games this season.”
With a draw not really suiting either side, this game really does have all the makings of a classic between two sides who are desperate to claim all three points. Having said that, there is no doubt that both managers would take a boring 1-0 win.
