Galway United and Bray Wanderers will both look for a first win of the season this Friday evening as the face up in Terryland Park.
Galway United went down to an opening day 2-0 loss to St Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park, while Bray Wanderers suffered defeat following a last minute Garry Breen goal for Dundalk.
Galway boss Sean Connor knows the importance of beating the teams he expects to battle with for positions this season. “Looking forward to the first home game of the season. We are in a mini league with Bray, Drogheda, UCD. We need to finish on top of that league so we need to finish with three points every time we play these teams at home.”
Connor knows that Bray however will not be an easy team to beat. “It will be difficult as Eddie’s teams are always well organized and have plenty of energy”. Connor said, “I have no doubt that he will unearth another couple of top players as he has done in the past.”
Galway United will be without three players for the game. Alan Murphy (long-term) and Jonathan Keane (two months) remain unavailable, while Stephen O Donnell is suspended following last weekend’s red card.
Bray Wanderers missed a host of chances last weekend before conceding a last minute winner. Eddie Gormley knows his side played well but is wary of a good Galway squad. “We had enough chances to win the game and I will be looking for more of the same on Friday", Gormley said.
"We will need to work as hard again this week and if we do that we will give ourselves a chance. Galway are a good experienced side and it will be a tough test for us but we will give it our best shot".
Eddie Gormley will have to play without David O’Neill who is injured while Philip Knight remains a doubt. Bray welcome back Dave Webster who had been out with a knee injury.
