Galway United host title chasing Bohemians tonight, in a crucial clash at Terrlyand Park. Depending on the Shamrock Rovers result, Pat Fenlon’s Gypsies could be astonishingly crowned Champions tonight in front of the hundreds of travelling fans.
The previous encounter between the two sides, an away victory to United, was the last time that Bohemians have lost in a 10 game unbeaten run. In a tie that can at times be tinged with controversy, Bohemians boss Pat Fenlon is weary of the United challenge:
“It’s never easy getting a win there and it wasn’t in my time as a player whether they were at the top of the table or mid-table. Galway still have pride to play for. Every player in this league has pride and no team allows itself to be rolled over.”
Galway, who are expecting their biggest attendance of the season on Friday, are without a number of key players, as they prepare for the crucial play-off with Bray Wanderers in future weeks. Speaking to the Galway Tribune, boss Sean O’Connor is under no illusions. While he can take satisfaction in taking seven of a possible nine points from last year’s champions this season, injuries and suspension to Stephen O’Donnell, Karl Sheppard and Ciaran Foley have ruled out a number of options for Friday’s game:
“We’ve had very good results against Bohs this season, but in all three games we had Stephen O’Donnell and Ciaran Foley in the middle of the park and Karl Sheppard up front, and all three are missing for Friday.”
