Drogheda United 0 - 1 Bohemians

A goal from Gareth McGlynn on 77 minutes was all that separated the two sides in what was a thrilling Premier Division encounter at United Park on Tuesday night. The only goal of the game came from a cross by Conor Powell. The left-back found McGlynn who rounded defender Yeal Haro and struck a sweet low ball into the back of Robert Duggan’s net.
A number of youths lined out for Drogheda United with Ronan McEntaggart and Darragh McNamara getting the nod from manager Brian Donnelly. Spaniard Haro who also started in the Claret and Blue came to Drogheda on the recommendation of Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon. Bohs made two changes from the team that won in Oriel Park on Friday, with Mark Rossiter and Ruadhri Higgins being replaced.
Despite Bohemians experience outstripping the home teams, the game proved to be an even enough contest. The first half seen both keepers tested, with Duggan perhaps the busier.
Darren Meenan, McNamara and Eric McGill linked up well on the right for the home side, both looking threatening at times. Aaron Greene in the red and black looked lively and was everywhere causing problems for the Drogheda defence throughout the game. However the McNally - Daly partnership once again seemed solid as they marshalled the back line intelligently.
The visitors started the second half the brighter, as they searched for an early goal. This was countered by Drogheda's quick breaks, which came to bear no fruit. Paul Keegan and Gareth McGlynn were an ever present danger for the Gypsies. In a tight affair, both were looking for the points on offer. Bohemians showed their strength in holding out for the win, despite the late pressure from the home side.
The win sees the Gypsies keep up with the battle at the top of the table, with St. Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers both claiming victories tonight. United are now in a run of six losses on the bounce, with rivals UCD up next in the league.
