Bohemians will be looking to beat UCD for the second time this season when the two sides meet at Dalymount Park on Friday night. (Kick off 7.45)
Pat Fenlon’s side left it late to claim all three points when these two met in the UCD Bowl earlier this season. Two late strikes from Jason Byrne and Raffaelle Cretaro helped the Gypsies come from behind and win the game 2-1.
Bohs will no doubt be expected to win Friday’s game but Fenlon believes that UCD are a more than capable side. “UCD caused us problems when we played them away. I watched them against Shamrock Rovers, and they played very well,” he said.
“People might expect us to beat UCD but the results of the last few weeks should have shown that things don’t happen as they're expected to. I’m asking our supporters to appreciate that, but also to appreciate that they will always get effort from the team.”
Gareth McGlynn will miss the game through suspension. The midfielder was banned for two months recently but has had it reduced to one month on appeal, with the ban beginning with immediate effect.
Both sides go into this game having recorded 2-0 wins on Monday night against Sporting Fingal and Drogheda United respectively. Bohs currently sit in 5th place in the Airtricity League while UCD are two places behind the current champions in 7th.
A win for Martin Russell’s side on Friday would lift them above Bohs, which would be quite remarkable considering UCD were playing 1st Division football last season.
A few interesting stats to bear in mind for Friday’s game: Bohs have won just one game at home so far this season. Compare that to the 14 out of 18 games they won own their own turf last season.
Also, UCD have scored just three goals from away games this season and they all came on the opening day, when they beat Drogheda by three goals to nil.
