Bohemians beat ten man Dundalk 3-0 on Friday night at Dalymount Park to go second in the Airtricity Premier Division as the race for the title heated up.
It was only the fourth minute when the game produced it's first chance. A great ball whipped in from Dundalk's Fahrudin Kuduzovic found former Bohemian's player Neale Fenn but the Dundalk captain coul only head wide of the post.
Bohemians reacted well and Mark Quigley nearly put the home side in front in the tenth minute when his cross fooled Dundalk keeper Matt Gregg, looping over his head but hitting the wood-work.
The home side started to put on the pressure and Aaron Greene had a brilliant chance to open the scoring but Gregg made himself big and denied Greene from six yards out.
Boh's started to play the ball around the pitch, keeping possession without creating any clear-cut opportunities. Owen Heary played a nice one-two with Gareth McGlynn but Heary blasted his shot way over the bar from about 20 yards out.
Greene was involved in another chance for the home side in the 36th minute but this time he turned provider for Paddy Madden, but he failed to hit the target from 12 yards out leaving the scores level at half-time
The sides didn’t stay level for long as Paddy Madden put Bohemians in front after 50 minutes. Aaron Greene crossed the ball in to Madden, who had acres of space to turn and shoot past Gregg.
Dundalk reacted by pressing forward but without creating any chances. The Louth club failed to keep the ball and looked like a team without any idea’s. Bohemians looked comfortable throughout the match but they didn’t trouble Gregg in the Dundalk goal as the two sides lacked any creativity in front of goal.
It wasn’t until the 82nd minute when Dundalk brought on Michael McGowan for Ross Gaynor. McGowan lasted 60 seconds as he was sent off for a terrible tackle on Bohemians substitute Raffaele Cretaro. This resulted in a scuffle between both sets of players but nothing more than handbags. The resulting free-kick was brilliantly dispatched by Ruaidhri Higgins as Bohemians wrapped up all three points.
The icing on the cake came in the 89th minute when a brilliant solo run by Bohs midfielder Gareth McGlynn ended with him slotting the ball home to make it three for the home side.
