Wexford Youths welcome Athlone Town to Ferrycarrig Park this Friday evening following very different fortunes to date so far in the league.
Wexford currently lie 11th in the table after a poor start to the season. Their poor start was made worse by the three point deduction handed down after playing a suspended player in their win over Salthill Devon, which leave the Youths on just four points after eight games.
Athlone Town on the other hand come into the game following last weekend’s 2-0 win at home to Longford Town. Three wins, coupled with just one defeat so far, leaves the midlanders in joint fourth place, but still eight points off top spot.
Athlone Town have now gone 304 minutes conceding a goal in League action with the last team to get the ball past Chris Bennion being Derry City back on the 26th March.
Regular centre half Des Hope, who is serving a one match suspension for his sending off last week against Longford, and midfielder Gareth Kenna, who serves the second of a three match suspension for a red card received against Monaghan United earlier this month, will sit this out while Tom O’Halloran and Robbie Benson are both unavailable having been called up to the Irish Schools side.
Austin Skelly, who broke down in training Wednesday night with a torn groin, and Kevin Williamson who ended last weekend’s bruising encounter with Longford Town nursing a hip flex injury, both definitely miss the game. Gordon Watson, who is suffering from dizzy spells, will also be unavailable. Stephen Caffrey is suffering with a reoccurrence of an old back injury and his chances of playing are rated less than 50/50.
Kevin Horan, Ronan Stack, Garvan Broughall and James Goggins have all been called up from the Under 20s team and look in line to make their first league starts of the season.
Extratime Prediction: 1-2
