Shelbourne -v- Salthill Devon

Following their very disappointing 1-1 draw away to Wexford Youths last Sunday, this Friday sees Shelbourne play host to Salthill Devon on their first visit to the capital as an Airtricity League First Division team. Kick-off at Tolka Park is 8pm.
With almost a full squad to choose from, Shelbourne once again failed to stamp any sort of authority on the game in Ferrcarrig Park against the local side, most of whom are not long out of Youth Football. While the game was somewhat spoiled by the high wind, the Shels defence were, time after time, put under sustained pressure by the hard working Wexford forwards. At the other end, the Reds attackers failed to capitalise on the many chances on goal that were created, much of the time thanks to the in-form Packie Holden in the home goal.
For this week’s game, Shelbourne will be without the suspended trio of David McGill (additional one match suspension for red card v Longford Town towards the end of last season), Sean Byrne (four yellow cards while with Bohemians) and Jack Flynn (last of his three match additional suspension for a red card received last season, while with St. Patrick’s Athletic). On the injury front Andy Haran is the only injury worry (ankle)
Salthill Devon are coming into this game on the back of two defeats and face a stiff challenge to alter their pointless position. Head coach Emlyn Long realises the big step up his players need to make but has been impressed with their performance so far.
”While obviously disappointed with the result last weekend we were encouraged with the level of performance we put in. This league is a big step up for us but we have been very competitive so far and hope for that to continue on Friday against Shelbourne in Tolka Park. "
Enda Dunne, Damien O'Reilly, Ronan Larkin, Gearoid O'Leidhinn are all out of contention for places. Mikey Gilmore is doubtful due to a niggling knee injury
