Third place Monaghan United welcome Wexford Youths to Gortakeegan this Tuesday evening with second place in their sights. (Kick-off 8pm)
A win for Monaghan United, coupled with defeat to second placed Waterford, could see them jump a place to second in the Airtricity First Division.
Mons have collected seven points from the last nine on offer in the league, with victories against Longford Town and Shelbourne, along with a scoreless draw against Finn Harps. Unfortunately they continue to pick up injuries the latest two being striker Barry Clancy and midfielder Alan Byrne. Mick Cooke’s side have strength in depth but it has been well tested this season.
Wexford Youths recent form has seen them fly up the league table to seventh place. After a poor start to the season, they have won five of their last six league games, including wins against Waterford United and Shelbourne.
They come into this game however on the back of a 5-1 loss to Shamrock Rovers. Despite Gary Sheahan equalising in the 13th minute, The Youths couldn’t hold off a strong Rovers side and Gary Twigg retook the lead for the Premier Division side before three second half gaols ended the contest.
Wexford will again expect a tough challenge to an ever improving Monaghan United team. The sides have met already this season with Monaghan collecting a 1-0 win in Ferrycarrig Park.
Extratime Prediction: Both sides in good form at the moment, but Monaghan to edge it 2-1.
