Monaghan United will look to continue their excellent form when Limerick travel to Gortakeegan this Friday evening (kick off 8.30pm).
Monaghan’s last two outings have provided victories against Waterford United and Cork City which have moved them up to third in the table, six points behind leaders Waterford. Monaghan have lost just one of their last 18 matches.
Shane Grimes and Darragh Hanaphy are out injured for Monaghan United.
“I was delighted to get my first win either as a player or a manager at Turners Cross. We started well and had some good chances in the first half in which we were the more dominant side. In the second half Cork had the better of the exchanges and had some good attempts, but our defence was excellent and I felt it would have to be either something special or a mistake that would see us concede a goal”, boss Mick Cooke said after last week’s win in Cork.
Looking forward to the visit of Limerick, Cooke said “some of these games it will require us to play at peak performances and this game against Limerick I believe will be one of those tough encounters. Pat Scully will fancy his chances of getting a result here on his team present form. If we continue to show our recent good form then I fancy a home win.”
Limerick have also had a good start to the season, winning four of their eight games to date and lie just two points behind Monaghan. Limerick currently lie 8 point behind the leaders but Pat Scully will fancy his men to be at least in the top half of the table come the end of the season.
Extratime Prediction: Monaghan to win 2-1 and continue their fine form.
