Limerick -v- Wexford Youths

Wexford Youths travel to Shannonside on Thursday evening, to face a Limerick team still hopeful of snatching a playoff spot. (Kick off 7.45)
The home side left it late in Drom last week to condemn Salthill Devon to the foot of the league table, while also keeping alive the slim hope they have of finishing in the top three. Pat Scully’s men played well, but were often frustrated by a well organised Devon defence. Wexford should prove a tougher test, although their form has been extremely patchy this season.
Limerick have a clean bill of health, minus Martin Deady who has been sidelines for the rest of the season with a long term injury. The Blues will look to Stephen O’Flynn for inspiration, whose two late goals against Salthill got them the points. The Mallow native has been rather hit and miss since returning despite a very respectable goal tally of seven goals in twelve starts. His role should be pivotal in securing the three points for Limerick.
Wexford Youths will look to their main threat, and ex-Limerick man, Garry Sheahan to get the decisive goal. Sheahan scored the fifth for Wexford in the mid season game at Ferrycarrig Park, finishing with a remarkable scoreline of five goals to three in favour of Noel O’Connor’s team, while the reverse of this fixture in the first series of games finished two nil to the home side. The Youths are without four key players in this one. Dean Broaders, Chris Kenny, Anthony Wolfe and Danny Furlong all miss this tie through suspension, giving the home side a slight advantage in terms of personnel.
In what is going to be a tight game, Limerick may just edge it due to the suspensions on the Wexford team. While with so much pressure accompanying this game for Limerick, Wexford may just take it to Pat Scully’s men and cause a shock on Shannonside.
