Third plays fifth in Ballybofey on Friday night as Finn Harps entertain Limerick (kick off 8pm). It was a case of advantage Limerick, as Pat Scully’s side recorded two victories against Harps last season, including a 2-1 victory at Finn Park. The other game between the sides finished in a 1-1 draw at Jackman Park.
Last week, Harps earned three points away to Monaghan and manager James Gallagher was delighted with the result.
“It was certainly a great result for us. Obviously when you go away from home and win, there are a heap of benefits. We got the three points, kept a clean sheet and kept the momentum going after the previous week’s victory over Salthill Devon. The two results have set us up nicely for the game against Limerick on Friday night. It was great to keep a clean sheet for the second game in a row.”
The Harps manager believes Limerick will be their toughest challenge yet but he is confident his side will be capable of victory.
“We know if we can continue to keep clean sheets, especially in this Division, that we have the ability to be able to nick a goal or two. Limerick will be the best side we will have faced this season, so will be a step up from the games we have already played. They have lost Stephen O’Flynn who was a player I felt made a big difference against us last year. They are a very experienced side, and have plenty of pace and power. And in Pat Scully, they have a manager who will have them well organised. However, we go into the game on the back of two victories and as usual we were be well prepared ahead of the game.”
Gallagher has major injury worries ahead of the second home game of the season. Davitt Walsh pulled up in training on Sunday morning with a knee complaint, but is expected to recover in time.
Limerick come into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Longford and manager Pat Scully will be looking to build on that.
"We are looking to build on the result against Longford Town, we know Finn Harps will be a very tough test in Ballybofey as they currently sit third in the league after a good start to the season for them. If we continue to make the chances that we have in our opening games I believe we can cause Harps a lot of problems and come away with the result we need".
Extratime.ie Prediction: A score draw, 1-1.
