Cork City will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they welcome a beleaguered Wexford Youths to Turner’s Cross on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
City had started the second-half of the season slowly but wins over Finn Harps and Wexford Youths have got Tommy Dunne’s men back on track.
They’ll be hoping to pick up where they left off against Youths last time in the league, where Graham Cummins helped City to a 2-0 win at Ferrycarrig Park.
George O’Callaghan should start at home for the first time since returning and Noel O’Connor down to the bare bones for their trip to the capital of the south, a second home win on the bounce could finally be on the cards for the Leesiders.
Stephen Mulcahy is Dunne’s main injury worry, but if he is still absent former LSL star Gavin Kavanagh and assistant manager Greg O’Halloran will continue at the back.
Having missed the Salthill win, Billy Woods will return to the fray, so the City boss will have an almost full strength team to choose from.
“Wexford Youths are the type of team that can cause any side problems,” Dunne said. “They are a very mobile and fit outfit and what they lack in experience, they make up for in their endeavour and work rate,”
“Noel O’Connor also has them well drilled. Every match is difficult - like the game we had up in Salthill Devon on Saturday - and I don’t foresee anything different this week.”
The Youths boss will be without some key personnel for the trip to Turner’s Cross, however, a win would see them overtake City and into the top half of the table.
O’Connor will still be feeling the loss of David Breen, the clubs former captain, who retired before signing for Athlone á la Neale Fenn.
Jimmy Keohane, their most talented player, has been withdrawn from the squad due to a probable move across channel, while Anto Russell will serve a suspension.
Still, Youths have had a decent record at the ‘Cross in the past with a couple of magnificent wins in the League Cup against the former Cork entity and it wouldn’t be too big a shock to see them take a result on this occasion either.
