Cork City and Waterford United come face to face in Turners Cross on Friday evening in the final Munster Derby of the season. Kick-off 7.45pm. City had a terrific 1-0 win over league leaders Derry City last week while Waterford United ground out a 1-0 against Wexford Youths.
Cillian Lordan and Greg O’Halloran are struggling with groin and hamstring problems respectively while Paul Deasy could miss out because of a knee injury for Cork City. Stephen Mulcahy is still sidelined with a groin injury. Neal Horgan and Eoghan Lougheed are available again having missed the trip to the Brandywell. Leading scoring Graham Cummins missed the game through suspension.
“The last time we played Waterford, it was an entertaining match down in the RSC and it was one we possibly should have won. Being at home in Turner’s Cross this time, we hope there will be a decent crowd as the two teams are still in contention for a play-off spot. We both had good wins last week so it’s all to play for”, manager Tommy Dunne said.
United will likely be without five first choice players. Shane Barrett remains injured while Michael Coady and Paul Murphy serve bans for their red cards against Wexford. Seamus Long is suspended for accumulating eight yellow cards, while Alan Carey will be out for a further two weeks after damaging ligaments in the warm up last Friday.
Blues manager Stephen Henderson was glad to get back to winning ways following recent poor results. “We’re delighted with that, after the disappointment of last week it was important to get back to winning ways”, Henderson told Extratime. “The manner in which we did it was most pleasing, even going down to nine men, so it’s a credit to these. Tonight they showed everybody what the club means to them and showed what the supporters mean to them because everything they did tonight was for them.”
Waterford United won the first match between the sides 2-0 while the game finished 1-1 in the RSC.
