Cork City welcome basement side Salthill Devon for their final home game of the season at Turner’s Cross on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm), and despite nothing to play for Tommy Dunne expects his charges to put out a decent show in front of their own support for the last time in 2010.
City will have to contend with a multitude of injuries however, with eight players ruled out in total. Nevertheless, Leesiders’ boss Dunne is expected to give some youth team players a run-out due to the amount of players sidelined.
“While the play-offs are now beyond us, it still is our intention to win the game and finish as high up the table as we can,” Dunne said ahead of the game.
“Against Finn Harps we had to bring a few younger players in due to the number of bodies we were missing, and this game offers us the opportunity to have a look at some of the young players again.”
Although Stephen Mulcahy, Cathal & Cillian Lordan, Greg O’Halloran, Shane Duggan and newcomers Keiran Keneally and Simon Holland are all suffering from injuries, City will welcome back the quartet of George O’Callaghan, Shane Barrett, Eoghan Lougheed and Billy Woods.
Neal Horgan is also absent due to GAA commitments – his club St Finnbarrs are playing in the Cork Senior Football County Final on Sunday – and Dunne wished him the best of luck saying: “On behalf of all at the club, I would like to wish Neal and everyone at St. Finbarr’s the best of luck.”
Salthill travel to Cork on the back of five defeats in a row and are massive underdogs to take the spoils here.
