UCD take on Bray Wanderers on Friday night at the Belfield Bowl (kick-off 7.45pm) in the FAI Cup 4th Round. Paul Corry returns from injury whilst Brian Shorthall’s red card against Shamrock Rovers does not affect him in the cup. David McMillan and Sean Harding remain unavailable but captain Evan McMillan returns to the side after sitting out the second half in Tallaght on Monday.
Martin Russell remains positive despite his side’s poor league form, “We had a great week at training and Bray are especially good in cup matches. But it’s a great opportunity for us to make the last eight in the competition.”
Although the Students have overcome the Seagulls three times in the league this season, it was the visitors who knocked them out of the Leinster Senior Cup this season.
Dane Massey will be absent for Bray after being sent off in the third round cup replay against Derry City. Adam Mitchell is also a doubt after missing matches against Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians from a hamstring injury. Captain Daire Doyle returns for the Seagulls.
Director of football Pat Devlin believes that a good rest after a hectic, three game week will help Bray’s chances of progressing, “It will be a tough game, it always is against UCD, they gave us a hiding earlier in the season but we broke the cycle in the Leinster Senior Cup so we know now we can beat them and we will go into the game on Friday with more confidence”.
