Drogheda United -v- St. Patrick's Athletic
- P.J. Murray
- Fri, Oct 30 2009
Drogheda United and St Pats square off in what could be a dress rehearsal for the relegation playoff with both sides needing a win for different reasons.
A win for St Pats may move them out of the playoff spot while Drogheda are looking to gain home advantage and avoid the slim chance of being automatically relegated. A win for the Boynesiders will almost certainly consign Pats to the playoffs.
Drogheda put two disastrous results behind them with a glorious 4-0 home win against Galway United and then a battling draw away to Cork City.
Pats on the other hand have suffered two defeats in their latest two games, a 3-1 defeat by Bohemians followed by a 2-0 turn over from Derry City at Richmond. The confidence at the Stadium of Light has been visibly rocked with on field performances lacking in the killer instinct.
Only a single goal has separated the sides in their clashes this season and with so much on the line for both teams that all the ingredients are there for an exciting Friday night game.
