Bohemians 8 - 1 Mayfield United

Defending champions Bohemians made a hugely impressive start to their cup campaign with an 8-1 rout of Munster Senior league champions Mayfield United.
The Cork side made the long journey to Dalymount but never really looked to be at the game as after going two nil up Bohs seemed to enter training mode and were scoring for fun. The home side took a four nil lead into the break and added another four in the second half. Mayfield did themselves no favours when on 45 minutes Stephen Hurley saw red for punching Owen Heary. Both players went for the same ball and Hurley was enraged with the hard but fair tackle and after being shown the red card the Cork man still went for more and had to be forced off the field.
Anto Murphy bagged himself a goal and four assists as the midfielder seemed to direct proceedings from the middle of the pitch. Bohs were themselves reduced to ten men as Gary Deegan had to go off injured and Pat Fenlon had used all three subs. The travelling side could well have been further behind if not for their man of the match goalkeeper Peter Cuthbert. The shot stopper made some great saves and even showed a panache for defending as he headed a clearance and tackled Glen Crowe when the striker was through on goal.
It was the Munster champions who made the first moves of the game as striker Barry Triggs made a good run at the Bohs defence and forced a corner which came to nothing, but that was the last attack for the visiting side before they went three nil down.
Bohs first of the night came after eight minutes as Conor Powell screamed down the left and his low cross was touched goalward by Neal Fenne. Mayfield defender Dave Kiely attempted a clearance and smacked the ball off Stephen Hurley which forced the ball home.
The home side then doubled their lead 15 minutes later as Anto Murphy got his name on the score sheet, this time a cross from Graham Carey coming in on the left wing and his cross found Murphy unmarked on the back post and he tapped home.
Jason Byrne grabbed himself a brace before the break, on 25 minutes the striker headed home from three yards and then on 42 he hit a thunderous strike from 25 yards out.
It took Glen Crowe only seven minutes to make an impact after his introduction at halftime. A cross from Owen Heary into the 8 yard box saw Crowe rise highest to meet it and he headed past Cuthbert.
Neale Fenn made it six on 67 minutes before Mayfield bagged a consolation goal on 77 minutes when in a rare foray into the Bohs box captain Anthony Wolfe was taken down by Paul Keegan and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Wolfe duly dispatched the set piece.
Crowe bagged his second on 83 and Graham Carey wrapped up proceedings in the last minute with Bohs eighth and the games ninth goal.
