Sporting Fingal welcome Monaghan United to Morton Stadium on Friday as they look to kick on from last week’s notable outing against league leaders Shels’ at Tolka Park. Perhaps unfortunate not to come away with a win, Sporting will be high on confidence and probably consider themselves genuine title contenders now that they remain a couple of results back in fourth.
Monaghan’s win last week extended an impressive run leaving the midlands side unbeaten in their last four league games, picking up eight points in the process, primarily due to a tight defence rather than free flowing attack.
Sporting Fingal welcome back top scorer Robbie Doyle and midfielder Colm James from suspension but will be missing Brian Kelly through suspension for this one. James Hussey is the only other absentee due to a groin strain.
Without any injuries or suspensions Monaghan should have a full squad to pick from as they look to repeat the performance earlier in the season which saw them run out the victors in the reverse tie back in April.
Speaking of the game, Sporting manager Liam Buckley was expectant of a tough test for his Dublin side:
“We face another demanding challenge against Monaghan United. They are one of the in-form teams within the First Division at present, winning their last three matches on the spin.
“Our last meeting ended in a victory for Monaghan in April, so we’re fully aware of the threat they pose and we’ll be treating them with the respect they deserve.”
Kick off at Morton Stadium is 19.45
