Friday Night LIVE!!
A big night for all the relegation candidates tonight, even for Galway United and their fans who don't play till Sunday, as they will be watching on as Finn Harps, Cobh Ramblers, and UCD all bid to better their points tallies tonight. Cobh's televised game with Bray is probably the tightest one to call as Bray still need points to escape an unlikely relegation. We'll be following all the action and examining how it affects the table as it happens.
1935 - Bray's home tie with Cobh kicks off. A win for the home side will guarantee safety. But a point will probably be good enough.
1948 - GOAL FOR BRAY - First goal of the night goes to Aidan O'Keefe as he taps in from close range after some very poor defending leads to a scuffed shot from Andy Myler which falls kindly for O'Keefe.
1950 - Cobh's woes could well have been doubled had loud penalty claims for handball not been waved. Although the defender was not far from it when it was hit at him, I've seen them given.
1956 - Ross Gaynor smacks the post with a cracking free-kick for Cobh. The bal comes back into the box and Alan Gough makes a super save from Davin O'Neill. The 'keeper has now made three good stops and it could well be 2-2 in what is a very open game on a treacherous surface.
2000 - Apart from the relegation issues, Shelbourne have the chance to open up a gap at the top of the First Division following Dundalk's loss last night.
2001 - GOAL FOR BRAY - 2-0 O'Keefe doubles his tally with a sweet strike from the left of the area. Ger Rowe had a big part in the build up but the defending again was suspect from the Munster men.
2002 - GOAL FOR COBH - 2-1 Greg O'Halloran betters O'Keefe's effort with a daisy-cutter from 20 yards that arrows across Gough into the bottom corner. In fairness it's the least that Cobh deserve.
2002 - GOAL FOR WATERFORD UNITED - 1-0 Vinny Sullivan gets the first goal in the First Division as they try to keep pace with the top two.
2004 - GOAL FOR COBH - 2-2 Amazing stuff at the Carlisle Grounds as Davin O'Neill equalises with another gem of a goal. Should have been 2-2 a while ago......it is now.
2005 - GOAL FOR BOHS - 1-0 Brendan McGill opens the scoring at the Belfield Bowl, increasing the chances that UCD could be relegated by the evening's end.
2010 - Gough again rescues Bray with a good save. This game could end up with eight or nine goals if it keeps going like this.
2015 - News from Tolka Park is dark at the moment. The floodlights are out. Kick off has been delayed at least 15 minutes.
2018 - The defending may be questionable but the half-chances keep accumulating for Ramblers at the Carlisle Grounds. Cobh could easily have buckled when two down but look much the better side now.
2020 - Davin O'Neill cleverly chips a ball to the back post where Micheal Mulconroy meets it with a looping header which bounces off the top of the bar and over.
2024 - Keystone Cops defending from the Seagulls. O'Neill almost profits but sees his shot blocked. There will be more goals in this game, and Cobh will get at least one of them if Bray keep at this.
2025 - HALF TIME: BRAY 2 COBH 2
2028 - Indications are that Shelbourne's game with Sporting Fingal will not be going ahead.
2028 - GOAL FOR DROGHEDA - 1-0 Declan O'Brien edges Drogheda ahead at home to Finn Harps.
2030 - SHELS-SPORTING FINGAL OFF
2032 - GOALS FOR LONGFORD AND MONAGHAN - 1-1 In the other game in the First Division, Monaghan took the lead through Sean Brennan only for Longford to quickly hit back through Darren McKenna.
2035 - HALF TIME: DROGS 1 FINN HARPS 0
2035 - HALF TIME: UCD 0 BOHS 1
2036 - HALF TIME: KILDARE COUNTY 0 WATERFORD UNITED 1
2041 - Game underway again in Bray. Gareth Coughlan is on for Paddy Kavanagh for the home side.
2043 - If things were to say as is, Galway United would be the big winners of the night as none of their rivals are winning. Cobh look the most likely to change that fact though.
2044 - GOAL FOR MONAGHAN - 2-1 Andy Haran shoots the home side ahead on the stroke of half time.
2046 - Gough is rolling back the years with some great goalkeeping. He tips Alan Carey's goal-bound cross on to the bar.
2052 - Alan Cawley mimicks Ross Gaynor's first half free-kick effort from the same spot. This time Anthony Fennelly dives to his left to keep Cawley's shot out. Bray enjoying their best spell since they scored, which was a long time ago now.
2100 - The goalmouth action has abated somewhat......I spoke too soon....Colin O'Brien cracks in a drive from outside the box and Gough again keeps it out with the help of the timber. Cobh have now tested the frame of the goal four times.
2104 - GOAL FOR FINN HARPS - 1-1 Huge goal for the Donegal men as Stephen Parkhouse scores from a cross by Neil McCafferty.
2106 0 GOAL FOR BRAY 3-2 Super sub Gareth Coughlan tries an outrageous chip which Fennelly just claws away, but super sub No.2 Gary Cronin is on hand to pounce and slam home from close range. Alan Gough must be smiling now. He has singlehandedly kept his side in the game and now, amazingly, they're in front.
2108 GOAL FOR MONAGHAN - 3-1 - The mouthful that is Kingspan Century Park continues to produce goals as Darren Hanaphy gives the hosts some breathing space.
2110 GOAL FOR WATERFORD - 2-0 - Waterford look set to move within two points of the top two as they eventually double their lead through Dave Warren.
2114 Bray are now safe at the moment, while Harps will join Galway and Cobh on 26 points.
2117 - Aerial ping-pong in the Bray box as Ger Rowe clears off the line and an extended scramble is eventually cleared.
2123 - Another let off for Bray as Cobh fail to get a shot in following a free from the right.
2124 - GOAL FOR KILDARE 1-2 An anxious few minutes await the Suirsiders. Ciaran Kilduff the scorer for the Thouroughbreds.
2125 - Torrential rain pours down at the Carlisle Grounds and it looks like Bray will somehow emerge with an unlikely victory.
2128 - Unsurprisingly Alan Gough has picked up the Man of the Match Award. Heroic effort.
2120 - FULL TIME: BRAY 3 COBH 2
2121 - GOAL FOR FINN HARPS - 2-1 - If Parkhouse's first goal was huge, this one is mammoth as Harps move into safety for now if they can hang on for the last ten minutes. Could Drogs be bothered with a fightback...doubtful.
2135 - GOAL FOR MONAGHAN - 4-1 Andy Haran is on the mark again for the Magic Mons.
2138 - FULL TIME: UCD 0 BOHS 1 - UCD ARE RELEGATED
2140 - FULL TIME: DROGHEDA 1 FINN HARPS 2
Huge result for Harps before their trip to Galway next weekend. They move onto 28 points, two ahead of both Galway and Cobh on 26. Galway travel to Derry on Sunday and now need to get something from this difficult trip.
2141 - FULL TIME: KILDARE 1 WATERFORD 2
2142 - GOAL FOR MONAGHAN - 5-1 - Mons go goal crazy with their fifth.....this time it's James Hand.
2150 - FULL TIME: MONAGHAN 5 LONGFORD 1
2151 - A busy night on the goal front ends. UCD, for now, are looking at life in the First Division next season, while there was joy for clubs at opposite corners of the country as Finn Harps gave their survival campaign a huge lift and Waterford came back into the race for automatic promotion.
