St Ledger joins Millwall

Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger has joined Millwall on an emergency loan deal.

The 28-year old joins from Leicester City and will be with The Lions until May 4th.

Birmingham-born St Ledger won his 33rd Irish cap as a 72nd minute substitute for Ciaran Clark in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Austria in Dublin. He scored Ireland's only goal of Euro 2012 when he netted in the opening game against Croatia.

St Ledger will not join Kenny Jackett's Millwall until after they take on Leicester tonight.

Although he will miss out on Leicester's push for promotion from the nPower Championship into the Premier League, he could well be involved in Millwall's FA Cup bid. They play Premier League Wigan Athletic in a Wembley semi-final.

He has struggled with a hamstring injury this season and had only returned in time to be involved in the international double-header this week.

Having missed five months after damaging his hamstring in a game against Bristol in October, St Ledger has had a frustrating time. It was only a visit to the Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, the Bayern Munich team doctor, that eventually got him back on the road to recovery.

St Ledger is a former Peterborough United, Preston North End and Middlesbrough player, who will return to The Foxes in May and who will be available for selection should Nigel Pearson's Leicester reach the play-offs.

At Millwall, he will be vying with  Danny Shittu, Mark Beevers and the currently-injured Karleigh Osborne for one of the centre-back places.
