Robbie Keane ruled out of Austria clash

Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane has been ruled out of Tuesday’s crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Austria at the Aviva Stadium. Record goal scorer Keane limped out of Friday’s 0-0 draw in Stockholm with a calf strain and has failed to recover in time.

 

 

Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has been called up to replace the stricken frontman despite venting his frustration at being left out of the original squad. Doyle will link up with the squad in time for training tomorrow morning.

 

 

John O’Shea will be top of the list to take the armband from Keane, the Waterford man took over the captaincy from Keane in the latter stages in Stockholm.
