Sligo Rovers cruised to a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night at Oriel Park against Dundalk which maintained their 100% and ensured they remain on top of the Airtricity League Premier Division.

Speaking to Extratime.iein the aftermath of his sides victory, manager Ian Baraclough was delighted to leave with three points and felt it was a good game for the spectator.

“I thought it was a good spectacle to watch. It’s good to take the three points away. Three points are good at any stage but to get them away from home is great. It’s a tough place to come and get any result so a win is fantastic.

“Both sides tried to play in the right way from start to finish which is good to see and we played well so all in all it’s a good night’s work.”

Raffaele Cretaro scored with just three minutes on the clock and that gave the visitors the initiative early on. While the goal in the opening stages did prove to be key, Baraclough knew that the game wasn’t finished then and praised the contribution of Cretaro and Anthony Elding.

“The early goal helped us settle down into our passing game and we were able to control. We might have scored an early goal but you still have to go and win. The game wasn’t over after three minutes by any means so I am pleased with how we pushed on.

“I thought Raff(Cretaro) was excellent for us tonight and of course another goal for the big man up top. When he plays like that, we’ve always got a chance of winning. “

In the wake of their 3-0 victory over Bray Wanderers last Saturday evening the former Scunthorpe boss wasn’t best pleased despite the result however he was much happier with how his side performed in county Louth.

“Our performance was much better and much more convincing than against Bray Wanderers at the weekend and I don’t think the scoreline flattered us tonight. We were outstanding for the majority and we took our goals well.”

The win leaves the Bit o’Red on top with three wins from three and while the 41 year-old is content with the start the side have made to the defence of their title, he knows there’s a long way to go.

“Our start has been good but there’s nothing handed out in March. It has been as good as it could be and if we can keep picking up wins like we have, then we’ll be in good shape for the season.”
