Cousins becomes Kildare caretaker manager
Following the departure of John Ryan on Friday night, Kildare County have moved quickly to fill the vacant post, appointing former Galway United manager, Tony Cousins.
Cousins, whose playing career took him to Liverpool, Dundalk, Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers took charge at Terryland during the 2006 season when Galway were lying fifth in the First Division. By the end of the season they occupied third place, which gained them promotion to the Premier. Galway finished eight under Tony in 2007.However he parted ways with the Tribesmen after only four games this season to be replaced by Jeff Kenna.
The new manager speaking to kildarecountyfc.com said “I am looking forward to the challenge of keeping the Thoroughbreds in the First Division and I had no hesitation when asked by the club to take on the task”. “ I aim to get the best out this Kildare’s squad in the final four games and if we have to face a play-off we will be well prepared” concluded Cousins.
Thomas Morgan, who assisted John Ryan and Barry O’Connor with coaching over the past couple of seasons and Thomas Donnolly, current manager of the under 20 side, have been appointed coaches to the Senior side.
