John Ryan has resigned as manager of First Division club, Kildare County. His departure came in the moments following Friday night's loss to Sporting Fingal at the Morton Stadium, a defeat which as good as sealed Kildare's position at the foot of the table.

It is also believed that the decision was due to Ryan being extremely annoyed with the club after only being informed of goalkeeper Austin O'Neill's unavailability through suspension upon the team's arrival at the ground. This led to striker Ger Robinson taking his place between the sticks.

A statement on the club's official website, kildarecountyfc.com, reads...

After being involved since day one Manager John Ryan and the club parted company when John resigned following County’s 2-0 defeat to Sporting Fingal at Morton Stadium. Assistant Manager Barry O’Connor also decided to resign from the post.

John Ryan was the first player signed by then Manager Dermot Keely, when the fledgling club entered the National League in 2002. John acted as assistant manager to Eric Hannigan after Dermot Keely departed to take over the reins at Derry City during the 2003 season and took over the position of manager at the beginning of the 2005.

“I have enjoyed my time at County in my various roles” said John “but I feel it is now time to move on and give the incoming manager an opportunity to familiarise himself and prepare for a possible play-off at the end of the season. I more than anyone have been disappointed with our results this season and I wish the club and incoming management the best for the future” he continued.

The directors wish John the best for the future and thanks him for his commitment and dedication as a player, assistant manager and manager over the past six years. They would also like to thank Barry for his input as a player and assistant manager for the club.

A further statement in relation to new appointments will be issued by the club as soon as possible.
