Take-Two for Waves and Raheny in Cup

Dlr Waves will host Raheny United on Friday (kick-off 7.45pm) in a re-arranged game after the initial fixture was abandoned due to a lengthy hold up following the unfortunate injury to a DLR player a couple of weeks ago. The venue has been moved to Jackson Park, the home ground of DLR.

Marie Gallagher is missing for Waves while Raheny are waiting on an update from Megan Campbell who suffered a minor injury on international duty this week. Ciara Grant will also miss out while Niamh Walsh is a doubt through illness.

“It’ll be a very tough test for us but we’re prepared for that. We didn’t start very well when the original game was called off but still went in at 1-1 at half-time so we’ll take some heart from that,” said DLR coach Larry Mahony.

“Obviously you’d love to get a run in the cup but the reality is we’ve drawn as tough a first game as you could get in it. We were a bit flat in our last match but the girls are determined to make up for that and have trained extremely well since.”

Raheny boss Sean Byrne is pleased just to return to action after a month of stop-start football with the weather taking its toll.

“It’s been a testing month for the girls but I have to say their dedication has been fantastic. They train extremely hard and are always available to train so they’ll be delighted just to get back playing again,” said Byrne.
