Limerick 37 vs Athlone Town

In form Limerick 37 host Athlone Town at Jackman Park on Friday night (Kick-off 7:45pm). Mike Kerley’s side are full of confidence following an impressive 5-1 defeat of promotion hopefuls Waterford United last Friday.

Athlone come into Friday’s game on the back of an important 1-0 victory over Monaghan United at Lissywoollen.

This result ended Athlone’s 12 game winless run while Limerick are now unbeaten in five games since their defeat to Shelbourne back in September.

Limerick have already cemented their name on fifth place but that hasn’t dented the enthusiasm and determination of Mike Kerley’s young side. They are determined to put themselves forward as serious promotion hopefuls for next season.

Limerick are unbeaten against Athlone so far this season, and with injuries to Athlone this time around, it is very hard to see the hosts not picking up all three points to keep their fantastic unbeaten run going.

Limerick 37 Team News: Mike Kerley has the luxury of being able to pick from a fully fit and available squad. Midfielder Jason Hughes has been picked for the Irish U-18 squad, who travel to France on Sunday, but he has made himself available for Friday’s clash with Athlone Town

Athlone Town Team News: Athlone travel to the Mid-West with several absentees which have given manager Dermot Lennon a major selection worry. Both Nigel Keady (suspended) and Niall Scullion (ankle) are definitely unavailable for selection while Philly Reilly (Foot), Jim Sheridan (Calf), Colm Jinks (Foot), Dave O’Dowd (Flu) are all considered very doubtful for the trip to Jackman Park. Meanwhile, Robbie Hamm returns after serving his one match suspension.

Extratime.ie prediction: Despite Limerick’s 5-1 thrashing of Waterford last week, Athlone will be a tougher team to break down as they defend a lot deeper. Limerick 2-1 Athlone.
