Paudie Quinn made a substitute appearance against Bray Wanderers nine days ago and showed a new dynamic to a Waterford United side 4-0 down at the time.

Pace, technique and an eye for goal that will add to the strength of the Waterford United attack as they look to finally end their time in the second tier of League of Ireland football. Quinn is confident of Waterford United going one better this season after a positive pre-season.

“They were very unlucky last year, but this year I think we have the squad to win it," Quinn told Extratime.ie. "If we can just get going and winning games and get on a roll, I think we can win the league. It’ll be between ourselves and Longford to win it I think, but I think we’ll get the better of them.”

Finn Harps are the first team to visit the RSC, and after ensuring a tough start to the 2012 season, a good start is vital this season according to Quinn.

“Harps is always a tough game, whether you’re up there or whether they come down, but I’m confident that we’ll beat them.

“I think to get a good start is what you really need, you don’t want to chasing teams. I remember doing it with Limerick two years ago and it’s hard to get chasing after them, but if you can get to the top, then you can let them chase you.”

Quinn was quick to travel to Waterford once the Blues made contact about signing the attacker, and having trained for the entire pre-season, Quinn is confident that he, and the other attacking players, have enough quality to push toward the top of the table.

“I think at the moment we’ve got enough up front t get the goals, but if we get an injury we could struggle, who knows. We have six goals among the three of us already, so we’re not going back at the moment and hopefully we can carry it into the season.

“I always liked the way Waterford played, even when I was playing against them with Limerick, they kept the ball on the ground compared to Limerick where it was hoof ball all the time. They just played the right way and seemed like a good team to join.

“I’ve enjoyed training, I’ve loved it so far actually. I’ve scored two, and am getting a partnership with the two lads so hopefully I can continue it into the season and get a few goals.”
