Irish President to attend CFAI Cup Final

President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins has confirmed his attendance at the CFAI Umbro Cup Final at Tallaght Stadium this Wednesday, March 6 (3pm).

President Higgins has a long association with football in Ireland and third level football in particular. He was previously President of Galway United FC.

“It is a great honour for the CFAI to have the President of Ireland in attendance at our most important game and we are delighted to welcome him to Tallaght Stadium,” said CFAI Chairman Padraig Carney.

The Colleges FAI cup finals return to Dublin for the first time in 16 years when ITT Dublin hosts the CFAI Umbro Cup, CFAI Umbro Plate,  CFAI B Teams Cup and Bob Eustace Cup Finals this week.

ITT Dublin, working with local football clubs and organisations, will host the prestigious college finals for the second time in its history as the Tallaght college ends its 20th anniversary celebrations. Under its previous guise as Tallaght RTC, the finals last took place in the south Co Dublin venue in 1997.

The highlight of the event will be the final of the CFAI Umbro Cup and is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 6, at Tallaght Stadium (3pm).

The games kick off on campus with an Umbro Cup Semi Final on Tuesday, March 5, with Ned Kelly Park, Kilnamanagh, hosting the other. Both games will kick-off at 1pm. That evening Peamount United will see the first silverware of the event decided with the Plate Final taking place at 7pm.

Wednesday, March 6, sees both Umbro Cup Semi Final venues host the Bob Eustace Cup Final and the B Teams Cup Final respectively while the showcase Umbro Cup Final will take place in Tallaght Stadium at 3pm.

CFAI Chairman Padraig Carney: “The CFAI Cup finals are the highlight of our calendar and we are delighted to be playing the Umbro Cup Final in Tallaght Stadium. It is fantastic to be in south Dublin again and we are thankful to ITT Dublin for their organisation this week. We are hopeful that the local community comes out in force to support the games.”
